The Past

The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.

Times are changing ..

I have observed this Christmas and New Year two changes in the lives of folk in downtown Heywood.

Caused by some extent to the economic downturn no doubt.

Firstly the reduced number of Christmas lights adorning houses - neighbours no longer seem to try and outdo one another with the number of flashing jolly elves and reindeer in their gardens. Perhaps the bad weather has had something to do with this or perhaps like me everyone is getting older and can not be bothered due to the physical effort involved.

New Year is usually a very noisy time with a deluge of noisy fireworks - but this year very quiet ... it seems that the in thing is to set off Chinese lanterns. I was not aware that this was the latest craze. Perhaps they are cheaper than fireworks !!

I must try to keep up with the latest fashions.

I have no idea of the relative cost......The cost to wildlife is awful. Daft birds and mammals eating bits of wire. They want banning.
Okay if you want to make one yourself out of split bamboo and a bit of wax in a cupcake holder...........Commercially purchased ones are a menace.

Penguins - move your cursor and take them for a walk !!

Say it as it is ......

Shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you'll land amongst the stars.

Look around !!!

What is this life, full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare?
