The Past

The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.

Stamford - Burghley Estate Office

Some more pictures of Stamford.

Here the estate office of Burghley - just a few yards from where my great grandfather lived in the early 1900's .

He worked as a coachman for the estate and was killed in a coach accident in 1901 in the centre of Stamford.

Grassington - Taking the bird ...

When we visited Grassington there seemed to be an abundance of these "plastic" feathered friends ....

Here's one at the local cafe ..

Grassington - New shop ??

I must admit I was not paying to much attention when I took this photo - this shop I am sure was the local chemist several years ago but now it appears to be something entirely different.

A very " olde worlde " shop front ....

Grassington

More pictures of Grassington's central square with it's cobblestones - attractive but can be difficult to walk on ..

The Devonshire pub in the centre distance ..

Grassington has a good local bus service with a regular route into Skipton.

An other charming Yorkshire Dales village is Grassington which is not far from the market town of Skipton.

Grassington has a good selection of shops , cafes and pubs ......

Football Thriller ... Seven goals !!

Today at Old Trafford was the local football derby between Manchester United and Manchester City.

All week the newspapers have hyped up the event with in depth comment and analysis.

I followed the match on the local Manchester radio and it was certainly exciting with a 4-3 win for United but not without controversy - the winning goal coming in the 6th minute of the 4 minutes of extra time - perhaps the referee broke his watch ?? There will certainly be a great deal of argument made of this !!!

Scorers for United were Ronney, Fletcher 2 and Owen and for City Barry and Bellamy 2

Back in Blighty ..

Back home in the UK after 4 weeks in sunnier climes ...

Although the weather has been dry and sunny today there are already indications that Autumn is on the way. The leaves on the Sycamore tree are starting to brown and curl at the edges. This tree always seems to be the first to start discarding leaves and preparing for winter.

We are actually promised by the weathermen an Indian Summer this Autumn - mainly in the south of England I'm afraid.

Now I'm back I've started placing bird seed in the garden again - hopefully to attract something of special interest. We will see ....

Kettlewell - St. Mary's Church

I'm away for a few weeks so just a few photographs scheduled for release while while I'm away.

The interior of St. Mary's church in Kettlewell.

I was taken with this stained glass window - very beautiful ..

This tableau is part of the scarecrow festival I assume - Noah and his Ark.

High altar - a typical Dales church I would say.

Busy with people cleaning and arranging flowers for the Sunday service..

Penguins - move your cursor and take them for a walk !!

Say it as it is ......

Shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you'll land amongst the stars.

Look around !!!

We have no time to stand and stare?
