The Past

The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.

Soon to go ..

Forest Flame looking very colourful - soon to go as the lawn needs to be enlarged for the needs of Ben the dog.

It will hopefully be transplanted to another part of the garden.

Tulips

We've had some cold weather of late and these tulips are no longer looking their best.

We've been busy down at the allotment but it's still a little cold to be planting out some seeds. Let's hope that the warmer weather approaches soon.

Fungi

The recent cold and very wet weather seems to have done wonders for the fungi in the garden - bringing them on a treat.

Today the temperature should reach the dizzy heights of 18C or 64 F - good old August ...

As it was ..

As it was a few weeks ago - our front garden looking quite colourful.

However even in mid August Autumn is now approaching fast and these flowers are starting to fade.

I wonder when we'll get the first frost ??

Wilderness ..

The plan this year was to have a wild garden - this replaced a failed vegetable patch - below is the result ..

Not happy with it ...

I expected far more colour and a bigger variety of flowers.

Plans are now to turn this into a rose garden for next year - another little project for me to do in my ever decreasing spare time ..

Read the label first ...

Today I bought three fuchsia plants from Aldi - special offer and cheap.

Really lovely looking plants - well developed and bushy. The intent was to plant in small containers and leave on the patio over the summer, then moving them to a greenhouse to over winter.

I've transferred them to slightly larger ceramic pots - so far so good.

Only then did I read the label and discover that the spread will be 6' x 6' - far too big for the pots and the patio.

Hopefully they will become pot bound and stay small but in future I'll have to remember to read the labels first.

A lesson well learnt - like all lessons in life ...

ABC Wednesday - E for Eden

The Eden Project is a " global " garden built in a disused quarry near Newquay in Cornwall and has some of the largest greenhouses in the world.

For more information just " google " Eden Project.

This fellow can be found in the gardens - if you look closely you'll see that he's made of scrap metal and bits and pieces of discarded electrical appliances.

If you go to Cornwall you'll enjoy a visit here - allow a full day ..

Just a few more garden pictures

The garden is staring to spring  into life with these primroses and primula

Red tulips - nice and bright, they bring a cheer to the garden this time of year..

Wet Sunday morning in England

Wet Sunday morning and I decided to take one or two pictures of the garden

It has rained all day but that has not stopped the blossom looking really pretty.

With all this rain the garden is looking quite green

The Mast

This is a well known landmark in Heaton Park, Manchester - so well known that you tend not to notice it. It's been in the park a good many years now - I originally though it was a television or radio transmitter but now I think it's more to do with telecommunications.

Had  a pleasant hours walk around the park this morning - quite warm ( for England ) and sunny - forecast for this afternoon showers ...

Granada 3

Another photo of the Alhambra ...

That's it now - have had trouble loading photographs this morning ( a wet Sunday morning in England )

Granada 2

Another view of the famous gardens of the Alhambra in Granada

Granada

This fountain can be found in the grounds of the Alhambra in Granada, Spain.

The Alhambra is a favourite tourist destination and can be very busy at times .

A crisp clear winter day is an ideal time for a visit ..

Penguins - move your cursor and take them for a walk !!

Say it as it is ......

Shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you'll land amongst the stars.

Look around !!!

We have no time to stand and stare?
