ABC Wednesday - K for Kotor

Kotor is a small town far away in Montenegro ......

To enter the town you need to pass through the gates set into the town wall -

Inside you will find churches, merchant houses and the palaces of the rich nobles -

Narrow streets -

And of course the main square -

Our holiday to Montenegro was a very interesting experience ..

Monochrome Monday - 29th September

My great-great-grandfather - Charles Thomas Bullivant 1825-1893. He lived in Alwalton in Huntingdonshire and worked on the land.

I would guess that this picture was taken around the 1870' 1880's 

He's with his wife and sister - but which is which ( I've no idea )  Any guesses ? 

The Palm

We've been trying to grow this palm for some years now.

The rate of growth is a little bit slow - always new leaves but they take such a long time to grow and the height of the palm does not seem to increase much at all.

In Spring our local flock of magpies make great use of the fibres of the stem - pulling off great chunks for their nests ..

Woolly Overcoats

The sheep are soft in Yorkshire - come winter they need an overcoat!

Nothing posh - just a plastic bin bag.

River Ure

Another attempt at scanning an old print - this time the River Ure in Wensleydale Yorkshire - not far from Aysgarth Falls.

Not sure if this is Spring or Autumn ... plenty of water there whatever!

River Wharfe

The Yorkshire Dales ( a National Park ) are a wonderful area for walking with such beautiful scenery.

Here is the River Wharfe at Grassington.

It's late winter and you can see the snow still on the ground and the river is in full flow .

ABC Wednesday - J for Jet

Had to think this week what picture I could use for J - anyway with the help of a dictionary came up with Jet.

We all seem to use them and it's now quite a common form of transport ..

Orlando - Universal Studios

For all those that enjoy cinema or scary fairground rides then the place to go is Orlando, Florida.

You'll find amusements galore ..

A very hot and humid place is Florida .... so take your sun hat !

Monochrome Monday - 22nd September

Day out at the seaside resort of Southport early 1950's - just look at the cars parked up on the sands !

This was before the  days of motorways and journey took hours - the cars seemed to always stink of petrol.

And me - wearing the  cap ( just in case it was cold )

The lads were neighbours from what I can remember - they left our area some time later and moved to Sale I think.

Shrewsbury

Busy little market town on the England - Wales border - the black and white wooden Tudor buildings contrast starkly against the modern concrete and glass of the bank.

Shrewsbury has played an important place in the history of England and Wales for many hundreds of years.

ABC Wednesday - I for Ireland

I is for Ireland.

Here on the west coast not too far from Galway City.

This picture was taken from Dunguaire Castle and shows the nearby village and small bay. 

Not far from here is the famous Burren with its barren limestone scenery.
