ABC Wednesday - S for Stamford

Stamford in Lincolnshire lies on the A1 road between London ,York and Edinburgh.
A very pretty place - many of the buildings are constructed from the local Lincolnshire limestone.

Famous sons of Stamford include Colin Dexter author of Inspector Morse - born 1930 and Sir. Malcolm Sargent conductor and composer - born 1895.

Stamford has been a setting for the TV Drama Middlemarch and films such as Pride and Predudice 2004 and The Da Vinci Code 2006

Saint Martins which is in Stamford Baron - Northamptonshire where my grandfather was born.

Quaint little alley with shops.
Stamford's river - the River Welland

I would recommend a visit to Stamford - a really nice place.

I'll be sure to visit next time I'm in England. And I absolutely ADORE the Inspector Morse stories. The last in the TV series was so sad, especially when I knew that the actor had died as well. What a beautiful place and it's no wonder it's used as a setting for many films. Very nice post.
