Monetize

Today for the first time I came across a word that was somewhat new to me - monetize.

A quick look in the dictionary tells me that this is a verb which means to convert into or express in the form of currency or when used as an adjective can mean adapt to the use of money.

From the 19th cent French monétiser or Latin moneta - money

It would now appear that the financial whizz kids have hijacked this word and it replaces the phrase make money from or something similar.

How the language changes ..
