The Past

Palm trees

It has been the fashion of recent years to grow palm trees in the garden - we were told in the past by received wisdom that these trees would only grow in the warmer winter climate of the west coast of Scotland or in Cornwall where they benefited from the warm Gulf Stream but now they seem to grow everywhere - or they did do!

Well the palm in our garden has died and the centre rotted away. As I walk or motor around the town and district I see nothing but dead palms. Has the last two very cold winters done for them or is there a mystery virus doing all this damage ?

I would be interested to learn if palms are dying in your area.
