The Past

The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.

Victory Parade

There will be a victory parade on Bank Holiday Monday to celebrate Manchester United winning the Premier League Trophy.

The parade starts at 10:00 am at Manchester Cathedral and heads down Deansgate to the Stretford Mall.

Perhaps there will be a double celebration if they beat Barcelona on Saturday and win the Champions League.

Well I for one do not expect to be watching the parade - a little bit too crowded for my liking - perhaps a trip to the allotment instead.

Palm trees

It has been the fashion of recent years to grow palm trees in the garden - we were told in the past by received wisdom that these trees would only grow in the warmer winter climate of the west coast of Scotland or in Cornwall where they benefited from the warm Gulf Stream but now they seem to grow everywhere - or they did do!

Well the palm in our garden has died and the centre rotted away. As I walk or motor around the town and district I see nothing but dead palms. Has the last two very cold winters done for them or is there a mystery virus doing all this damage ?

I would be interested to learn if palms are dying in your area.

War of the Roses

A great win for the red rose side - Lancashire beat Yorkshire by 6 wickets in the cricket County Championship Div 1.

Lancashire 329 and 121-4

Yorkshire 141 and 308

Good work !!!

P Horton just short of a century in the first innings - 93 scored.

It's always a good feeling when we beat the white rose ..

Sycamore

I should be back from travels abroad today - assuming no travel disruption or World War.

This sycamore should be in full bloom by then - assuming England has not reverted to the Ice Age.

We assume a lot !!!

Tulips

These tulips return year after year - each year they look just as beautiful.

Yet they are never tended - no fertiliser or plant food - green fingers missing.

They have lasted at least ten years ....and maybe longer.

Penguins - move your cursor and take them for a walk !!

Say it as it is ......

Shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you'll land amongst the stars.

Look around !!!

We have no time to stand and stare?
