The Past

The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.

Manchester - Modern architecture.

Rather a modern looking street here in central Manchester - just off Deansgate.

This area seems to have been " done up ". Many new buildings and new Law Courts.

Kingston, Ontario

If memory is correct this river is the St.Lawrence and I do know that this is Kingston Ontario.

We spent a few hours here on our Canada holiday some years ago now - a coach trip - early morning calls and hundreds of miles travelled virtually each day but it was worth it.  We remember Canada with great affection.

A year of Blogging

Where does the time go  ?- today is the 1st. anniversary of when I started Blogging.

I had never read any Blogs before then - I created my Blogs on a whim not expecting to still be at it one year later ...

It's certainly been interesting and I've been introduced to many parts of the world I had no idea what were like.

So here's to the next year of Blogging - but what photographs and what subjects to choose ??It is a problem - but a nice problem ..

Monochrome Monday - 19th January

Uncle Jim

A fine looking fellow with his moustache and bow tie - perhaps a little fierce looking ??

This is my mothers uncle - James Francis who was born around 1877 in Ardwick Manchester. The family originally came from north Wales and they often went back there on visits hence the photograph being taken in Denbigh.

I would imagine that this photo was taken between 1900 - 1910.

Water cascades over the lock gate on the Rochdale Canal not far from the city centre of Manchester.

This picture captured on Christmas Day morning while we were out for a short walk.

Manchester - Rochdale Canal

Another secret part of Manchester - here in the centre of the city hidden from view is the Rochdale Canal.

Further along the pathway you'll find a line of trendy bars and pubs.

Monochrome Monday - 5th January

This old photograph was taken on the Isle of Man about a hundred years ago - in the early 1900's.

Sorry about the quality - a bit of tear and wear and coffee stains by the look of it.

One of the ladies is my grandfather's first wife and her sister. Not grand people - I assume the clothes were provided in those days by the photographer and used only for the posing of the photograph.

The Basin

Taken Christmas Day morning this photo shows the canal basin in Manchester - a bright sunny morning it was in the centre of the city.

Here you can not only find canal boats but pubs and clubs - what is now classed as a trendy area...

Refelection

The reflection of Beetham Tower caught in waters of the Rochdale Canal.

Just a few yards away from here is the spot where the Romans built their fort nearly two thousand years ago..

.

Penguins - move your cursor and take them for a walk !!

Say it as it is ......

Shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you'll land amongst the stars.

Look around !!!

What is this life, full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare?
