The Past

The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.

Heaton Park

Heaton Park in north Manchester is a pleasant place to wonder around and get away from the noise of the city centre.

There is a lake with boats  for hire - rather expensive , Bowls for the public - but only on two afternoons per week in the summer season.

Also Highland  cattle , cafe's and children's play areas, plus an animal corner.

November 5th sees a big bonfire and firework display plus a travelling fair.

So go.. and enjoy  !!!

IF YOU WANT THE BUS .... !!

If you need to get around Guardamar then the No.1 bus is a good option. You can journey from the Dunes via the church and town hall square , bus station , main shops and supermarket to the Hotel Campomar.
Walking back from the hotel along the beach as far as the  promenade makes for a pleasant stroll of less than 30 minutes
Warning - the bus no longer starts at the port - lack of demand I guess and in winter there are no buses during the siesta time
Winter time sees an influx of Spanish pensioners on reduced rate holidays and at certain times of the day getting on the bus can be a pain - no standing room left and a lot of pushing and pulling - not for the faint hearted

Question ....

Is blogging the poor man's answer to having their own web page ??

In the garden

This little fellow seems to be making a visit to our garden a regular feature of his daily life..

Global Football

So .. the football Premier League proposes to extend the football season to 39 games with extra fixtures around the world.

Will these extra games leave a carbon footprint we ask ??

If so then what is the point of little old me sorting out my rubbish into a variety of different bins, walking everywhere and restricting my holiday arrangements in order to save the world from drastic climate change.

Is climate change actually real or is it a device for the government to screw down the little people ( and I do not mean elves, fairies or goblins )

An old film

James Bond  ( 007 ) is back ... if only on  UK TV

Just caught a glimpse of the 1987 film " The Living Daylights " set in Afghanistan and guess who were the good guys ?

The Mujahideen were the good guys in those days !!! Fighting communism and the USSR !!!

With hindsight perhaps we should have left the Russians to it ...

Room with a view .....

View from the CN Tower, Toronto, Canada

Canada is a great place to visit and one of the many surprises was realising not only is it a modern country but also has a long long history of  English and French occupation stretching back hundreds of years ...

Liverpool Parking

Last night we left our car parked overnight in the outskirts of Liverpool  - with the window wide open due to an error

Nothing was stolen - is this a record ?

Where is it ?

For anyone interested - the picture shown in the header was taken at the Rochdale Canal near Slattocks on the Middleton / Castleton boundary , Rochdale, Lancs

It may come as a surprise to many people that there is a considerable amount of countryside around the old cotton town - Hopwood Woods , Healey Dell and Hollingworth Lake to name just a few areas

Happy walking .... !!!

Penguins - move your cursor and take them for a walk !!

Say it as it is ......

Shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you'll land amongst the stars.

Look around !!!

What is this life, full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare?
