Alkrington Woods
Among the meadows of Alkrington Woods you'll not only find orchids and other wild flowers but these wooden carvings. One a field mouse but as for the other I'm not too sure.

Water Shortage
Well it's very hot for the UK and we've not had rain for a few weeks so I expect that soon we'll be issued with warning about water shortage.
I await the hosepipe ban any day now.
What are the odds for a ban being announced next week ?
On the plus side my gas consumption is way down. Profits for E-on will be down as well this summer.

River Irk, Middleton
Fast flowing in parts - the River Irk attracts Dipper and Grey Wagtail and numerous plastic bottles which tend to accumulate at the bottom of the weirs.

Alkrington Woods - Middleton
The weather has certainly improved - now too hot to walk the dog in the mid afternoon though Alkrington Woods even though it does have quite a bit of shade.
You'll find the woods and lodges at Rhodes in Middleton - a favourite fishing and dog walking spot besides the River Irk.
Plenty of bird life - Swans, Canada Geese, Tufted Duck, Mallard, Grey Wagtail, Heron and Dipper.

Girls.. United States Navy
Girls - it looks like you had the chance to join the US Navy way back in the 1940's
Not exactly PC in this day and age.
The Britishers may have returned to fight for King and Country but I wonder if they would have had they known that in the future their grandchildren may be refused entry into the UK without the correct visa.

This weekend sees the 1940's Event in Heywood - for 1940's read World War II
A certain section of our society likes dressing up and playing with big toys.
The 1940's was not exactly a fun time !!!
Fire engine above but do not know the purpose of this vehicle here on the right.

Carlos Tevez
Manchester City and Juventus have agreed a £12m deal for the transfer of the 29 year old Argentinean striker Carlos Tevez.
He is expected in Italy today for a medical and to complete personal terms.
Personally I think City will miss him - in 148 appearance he has scored 74 goals and won many a game.
Now it is assumed City will have to look around for another top scoring forward.
Good luck in that search!!!
