Heywood 1940's Event

This weekend sees the 1940's Event in Heywood - for 1940's read World War II

A certain section of our society likes dressing up and playing with big toys.

The 1940's was not exactly a fun time !!!

Carlos Tevez

Manchester City and Juventus have agreed a £12m deal for the transfer of the 29 year old Argentinean striker Carlos Tevez.

He is expected in Italy today for a medical and to complete personal terms.

Personally I think City will miss him - in 148 appearance he has scored 74 goals and won many a game.

Now it is assumed City will have to look around for another top scoring forward.

Good luck in that search!!!

The Returned

BBC4 have been showing foreign language films to great success and now is the time for Channel 4 to participate.

Sunday night sees the series The Returned - in French with subtitles.

Very good - this is going to be a good night time watch. Episode 2 was shown last night.

Years after a coach crashes killing the passengers some of them start to return - apparently in good health - not zombies !!! Lots of interesting situations start to evolve !!!

The storyline is going to develop quite nicely over the next few weeks.

Watch and enjoy.

The White Queen

A new epic blockbuster started last night on BBC1 - The White Queen.

The story set during the War of the Roses concerns the lives of three very strong, scheming and powerful women - Elizabeth Woodville, Anne Neville and Margaret Beaufort.

This first episode was very enjoyable to watch but one does need some historical knowledge of the times as this is going to be one very complicated story.

An article in the Radio Times gives a detailed description of the women and the times in which the story is set.

Based on a best selling novel by Philippa Gregory.

Well done BBC.

Irwin's Fresh Butter

It's not very often you see an advert on the wall made from coloured tiles.
To be found near Penny Lane.

Near Penny Lane

A pub or wine bar in the vicinity of Penny Lane Liverpool - pleasant place but I never really took any notice of what it was called. As you would expect being near Penny Lane there are lots of Beatles photographs on the walls.

What's this ?

I'm not sure what these are but they are very pretty.
I planted the bulbs some years ago and recently they seem to have been multiplying quite freely especially since the boys next door with their footballs have moved house.

Spring is here - in June

A dull day today but Spring has eventually arrived even if it is June. The good weather has seen our local garden centre run out of plants - a sudden rush of customers when the sunshine arrived
