The Past

The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.

A good year ..

Forest Flame (Pieris) in all it's glory - I've never seen the leaves so red but this year is an exception.

A really good show .. this small hedge will need pruning come the summer so that it fits in with the size of the garden.

Plants on the move ..

These Grape Hyacinth originated in my mother-in-law's garden in sunny Sussex and were moved to the wet climes of Lancashire some years ago.

They are doing fine but I did expect them to multiply more than they have - they seemed to grow like a weed "Down South".

Spring again

Growing away merrily under the shade of the birch hedge these colourful plants brighten up this area of the garden.

Which boat ?

Which boat should we use ? Motor or sail ?

I'm afraid I'd always settle for the easy option ...

Hollingworth Lake Visiter Centre

The Hollingworth Lake Visiter Centre houses a small exhibition centre and a cafe cum shop.

An ideal place to park the car while wandering around the lake.

Allotment 21

Below are Maris Peer potatoes chitting away - it was a lovely sunny Saturday today and these were planted out in the allotment.

All the potatoes and onions have now been planted plus a few rows of seeds - Beetroot Parsnips and Spring Onions

A few days ago we planted Courgette seed out in the open - I misread the instructions on the packet and I think we have planted too early. Perhaps the weather will be kind and they will survive.

The problems with running water seem to have passed and the plot is now dry - tomorrow will be a busy day netting fruit bushes - signs of fruit on the Gooseberries so it is important they are covered PDQ especially as we have seen a little mouse moving about.

Bats ...

Well tonight I saw my first bat of the year - flying around the garden in the dusk.

This must surely be a sign that the weather is eventually warming up.

Roll on the summer .

Penguins - move your cursor and take them for a walk !!

Say it as it is ......

Shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you'll land amongst the stars.

Look around !!!

What is this life, full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare?
