Manchester - Canal Basin

It may come as a surprise but Manchester has it's own canal basin in the centre of the city near to Castlefield.

Besides finding canal barges you'll find a number of pubs and bars - one of the "in" areas of the city.

Shoulder Surfing

As I idled through the BBC Languages web page today I came across a new phrase - SHOULDER SURFING .

I've never heard of this before - originally it meant stealing someone's wave whilst out surfing but now in American English it has an alternate meaning.

Shoulder Surfing is the act of standing close to someone in a queue at a bank or ATM machine and reading their pin number whilst looking over their shoulder.

Well today I've learn something new..

If you are interested in learning or improving your English then look at the BBC at http://www.bbc.co.uk and click on languages.

Great Manchester Run

Back to the UK and our first trip out is to the Great Manchester Run which was held this morning - luckily the rain apart from a few drops managed to hold off.

There were certainly many participants running to raise money for their favourite charity.

Here the runners line up for the start with Manchester Town Hall in the background.

Milling around and waiting for the warm up exercises to begin.

More photographs to follow this week ....
