Day out at the seaside resort of Southport early 1950's - just look at the cars parked up on the sands !
This was before the days of motorways and journey took hours - the cars seemed to always stink of petrol.
And me - wearing the cap ( just in case it was cold )
The lads were neighbours from what I can remember - they left our area some time later and moved to Sale I think.
It was the hideous bus journeys from that time that I recall - single deckers on a wet day, Diesel and wet macs.
ReplyDeleteOh, and school caps - though by the fifties I refused to wear one. Of course I started wearing a forage cap in the ATC and the RAF followed.

ReplyDeleteSuch a great shot of boys being boys. I remember my parents taking us on trips to visit my aunt and uncle and it would take all day to get there. Now it'd be about 5 hours.
ReplyDeleteBrillant photo from those days, I remember it taking hours to get anywhere (mid to late 50's for me). Dad had a motorbike and sidecar!
